PATIENT INFORMATION

Harbour Surgery Centre is located in the Northern Clinic of Southern Cross Hospital’s North Harbour campus. This purpose-built medical facility includes private consultation rooms where you can discuss your condition with our team in confidence and comfort. Harbour Surgery Centre is conveniently surrounded by other medical clinics such as radiology, as well as a pharmacy and café. Adjacent to the Northern Clinic, is Southern Cross Hospital – North Harbour, a fully equipped private surgical hospital. The surgeons at Harbour Surgery also offer consultations at locations all through Auckland and Northland.

When you make an appointment with our team, you will be seen as urgently as required. Our team will first establish your diagnosis, before discussing all your treatment options with you, so that you can make an informed decision. If surgery is required, we will provide full pre-operative, operative and post-operative care at Southern Cross Hospital – North Harbour, ensuring you are well looked after throughout your treatment, and beyond.

Appointments

At the appointment your surgeon will ask questions about your illness and examine you to try to determine or confirm the diagnosis. You are welcome to bring a friend or family member if you wish. This process may also require a number of tests (such as, blood tests, x-rays, scans). Sometimes this can all be done during one visit, but in most cases, this will take one or more follow-up appointments. Occasionally some tests are arranged before your appointment to try to speed up the process.

When you come for your appointment, please remember to bring the following:
• Referral letter from GP, family physician or other doctor
• Private Medical Insurance details
• Copies of results, x-rays, MRI’s, CT scans, etc. and any other relevant information.

Once a diagnosis has been made, your surgeon will discuss treatment with you. In some instances, this will mean surgery, while other cases may be managed with medication and advice. If surgery is advised, the steps involved in the surgical process and the likely outcome will be discussed with you and any questions will be addressed.

Free dedicated patient car parking spaces are normally available on site. To park at the Southern Cross Northern Clinic take: Entry A, 212 Wairau Road, Wairau Valley, Auckland. You’ll find Harbour Surgery Centre on Level 1.

Our team are available to see you at several locations across Auckland, and up to Whangarei, so you can arrange an appointment at a location convenient to you. Our Surgeons consult at clinics based in Epsom, Grafton, Greenlane, New Lynn, Remuera, Silverdale, Wairau Valley, Warkworth and Whangarei.

Paying your account

Depending on who is funding your treatment, you may be required to settle outstanding accounts or make co-payments after your appointment. If your treatment is covered by insurance, you will need to forward all final costs to your insurer.

We are a Southern Cross Health Society Affiliated Provider. We accept payments by EFTPOS, VISA, Mastercard or internet banking. We no longer accept payment by cheque and we prefer not to accept payment by cash.

Cost Estimates

If you are required to have surgery, you may wish to request an indication of the costs of your procedure. We can provide you with an indication of the expected time in theatre and the length of your stay in hospital (e.g. day stay or overnight). We can also help you coordinate the costs from Southern Cross Hospital and the Anaesthetist so you can get a complete picture for your insurance claim.

If your treatment is through the Southern Cross affiliated provider scheme, you should receive information about any potential co-payments required.

If your treatment is covered by ACC or a District Health Board (DHB), the hospital will seek approval for your procedure on your behalf. If your procedure is only partially funded by ACC, you may be required to pay a deposit on admission to hospital.

Accomodation

For out-of-town patients, we recommend staying at the Quest Takapuna, located at 215 Shakespeare Road. The apartment style hotel rooms all have kitchenettes or full kitchens, along with washing facilities. There is limited underground parking. We sincerely hope you are taking care during this COVID-19 pandemic and understand that these times can be unsettling, particularly if you are experiencing health issues. Rest assured that our team are all fully vaccinated and are happy to take referrals. Depending upon our Alert Level, we will be observing the government guidelines, and will either be able to see patients in the clinic or provide video or phone consultation as an alternative.
